Excerpt from Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead by Neil Strauss

In the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, Hugh Hefner, age seventy-two, sat in the library in his second skin: a red smoking jacket and black silk pajamas…

How would you feel if Kimberly (former wife) started dating twin brothers?

Hefner: We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. But, actually, I think the fact that I am seeing there ladies rather than one probably does make it easier for her. If I were seeing only one person continually, then it would be a much closer comparison to the marriage and that would be, by its nature, more difficult.

What about plastic surgery? Do you think people have taken it too far?

Hefner: I think it’s like medicine. Anything that makes you feel better about yourself is perfectly appropriate. Why should one be required to stay in a box that was handed to them by either nature or by their parents or peers? Why not create yourself? Why not be the person you want to be?

A lot of people in our culture today are self-invented celebrities, but you were one of the first to do that.

Hefner: I don’t know if I was the first, but it’s certainly very dramatic in my case. I think that, you know, there is a light that is handed to you by your parents and society, and then there is a light that if you are smart, you can create for yourself. In other words, Bernie Schwartz reinvested himself as Tony Curtis. Archie Leach reinvented himself as Cary Grant. They had obviously made films, and the films were enough to help them, but I think that in another way, we all try to do that if we’re smart. And I certainly did.

When did that process begin for you?

Hefner: My first reinvention was when I was in high school. Having been rejected by a girl I had a crush on, I literally changed the way I dressed and went for what I perceived then as being cooler clothes; yellow cords and saddle shoes. And I changed my name: I started referring to myself as Hef for the first time.

I wonder how much rejection drives people to become stars

Hefner: Or repression. I think that without question, you know, rejection may be a part of it, but primarily it comes even earlier than that.

So for you, it came from being raised in a home without affection?

Hefner: Yes, although there was a point in time that my mom said she was really sorry and that she herself had been raised in a very oppressive home, so she had been unable to show that affection. And I said to her, “Mom, anything that you may have done that was less than ideal was a blessing. It motivated me to create the world that I have created and accomplish what I have accomplished.”

So sometimes it’s the sand in the oyster that creates the pearl. You need some irritation. You need some repression or some conflict. And my life would have been much less satisfying if I didn’t have that.

Do you think you’ve reinvented yourself again now?

Hefner: Well, to come extent. But what I’m doing is I am revisiting, you know, the guy I was before. And with a vengeance.

One of my favorite places for inspiration is the Internet Business Mastery podcast by Sterling and Jay. Their last podcast talks about the truth behind financial freedom.I found this podcast spot-on.A lot of times we get lost in the actual numerical value of money, instead of what they money represents to us. In thinking about this further, I realized that right now, the extra 2k a month is already giving me value that I did not have before.Last month (April), my partner and I made over 4k. That’s 2k of extra cash for me, minus expenses in accounting for business items. This extra money means to me, currently:

I get to save time by eating out and having the money to do so

I can buy bubble tea every night while writing/studying

I save save at least 1k a month and invest it into the stock market

After all my expenses, I save a lot of money still

I don’t need my actual paycheck from work to survive

I can treat my friends to lunch/dinner

I always have some extra money around when needed

I can buy stuff from amazon and read a lot of books

I can reinvest this money into new projects and not be afraid if they fail

I can buy cool domain names

I can get massages at the local massage place for $40 an hour, knowing this money can be supplemented by my monthly income

To get to where I want 10k a month would mean:

To wake up in the morning and realize I do not have to walk through a set of office doors, or wear a badge, or answer or fear from anyone who has more power over me telling me what to do

To wake up, and decide to work to however late I want

To wake up, and decide that I can goto the local campus and pick up girls today because I feel like it

To hit the beach and work on my laptop at the local cafe with a beautiful view

To have the money to invest in a dance studio, gym, or modeling agency

To go up to women and present them with a business card and a site that features prominent models / talent and a brand

that people actually have heard of

To run my own company, and be able to direct TEAMS of people towards a project that is important to me (and hopefully them)

To live comfortably, wherever I want

To have a pad in San Francisco when I want, and one in palo alto near Stanford

To be able to fly to any city on a whim and take a week off

To decide how I want to spend my time, and who I want to spend it with

To live without fear

To help others live without fear

To someday die, knowing that I achieved my goals in life, or at least died trying

If you’re stuck, try identifying you goals in terms of what the money DOES for you, instead of the number itself. It is the experience in life that counts.

March Total Profit= $225

AlphaCasual Productions
Expenses = $200
Net profit = $1800

Honeyplex Revenue = $225
Expenses= $1800
Net profit = -$1575

Lessons:

1. As you guys can probably tell if you are an avid reader of mine I am rounding off a bit to avoid all the math and excel stuff which we DO keep on the other side of each business. For the purposes of this income report (general lessons and tracking my progress) I’ll round off to the closest digit.

2. Honeyplex is bleeding expenses for 2 reasons. One, we hosted a party for Resonance Social that cost $700+. Two, linkbuilding costs from last month carried over with $500+. These are the last link building expenses from a previous costly mistake. The error will be corrected this month as link building goes back down to about $30 per month. Resonance Social investment keeps us in the clear socially on the next frontier. I will be working on this fulltime post some other projects, as we make inroads into the social scene, which is what Honeyplex was designed to do from the very beginning.

3. Aside from that, ACP is making bank as PUA Lingo continues to deliver stellar results. Even at 50% equity, it is garnering enough revenue to pay for rent + food. We should follow its business model for another lucrative market.

4. Finding others like you takes time, however when you do, cherish them. When the money starts pouring in, that’s when it becomes difficult to see people’s true motives. Right now, while we are still struggling, is the time to seek out true intentions and true friends.

I am using ACP revenue to fund my Honeyplex projects. However in doing so, I am taking some liberty with expenses. Need to be more careful with expenses as if I was only running Honeyplex myself and without a budget. When we started ACP, our budget for expenses was only 200-300 a month. Therefore if forced us to make good decisions on marketing and those decisions are still paying off to this day.

Bill Gates coined the original concept of the “platform”. It was first used in technology to describe the idea that one channel of processes can control or serve as a base of operations for the rest of the technology. A nexus, if you will, that others must pass through in order to reach the user or source.

Gates was able to pioneer the PC (Personal Computer), and this became a technology platform. In his domination of the PC market, other software, hardware and service providers had to go through the Windows operating system. With Windows 95, Microsoft ware able to take over the world using technology.

The search platform was pioneered by Google, at a time when no one thought search was important! People disregarded it was a useless function until Larry and Sergey began experimenting on the Stanford campus. Now, Facebook and Twitter are starting to develop the first social platforms and even reaching (as in Facebook’s case) saturation. New social networks will not be able to compete with Facebook’s level of integration to real world identities and their connections.

So I got to thinking – what about social platforms and cultural memes? Are there platforms in social hierarchies that require anyone else to go though after a certain point?

For example, it used to be that if you went on Jay Leno, you were considered “made”. An author being mentioned on Oprah was ensured millions in sales. Are these social platforms still in play?

Are there local social platforms? That iconic club everyone goes go, and where you meet the influencers of the city?

As I start thinking about social platforms, I can’t help but wonder – is there a way for all hot girls who aspire to be super icons to go through us?

Hugh Hefner was able to do this with playboy. Model agencies attracts girls from all places. GQ, Hustler, Esquire – anyone worth anything wants to be on the cover, and if we can establish such a company and such cultural significance, the hot girls of the world will go through us. Perhaps these should be called Cultural platforms, as social platforms is so synonymous with technology that enables us to localize reach across the Internet.

I am in between writing my book, doing a photoshoot and enjoying some parties I previously was invited do.

Therefore I will leave some quick lessons for you as I take a quick break on my computer.

Lesson 1: Mr Smooth Game.

Frame: I don’t need your pussy I’m on my own dick. (Kanye West)

When I had a girlfriend and I was at salsa club, I never hit on girls, I simply wanted to dance. Ironically, more girls found me attractive. I wasn’t selling anything, and I wasn’t nervous talking to them.

Frame: Everyone else is trying to fuck. I am just here to dance.

I am not trying to get anything from you. Therefore our exchange can only be based on that of mutual respect and value.

Lesson 2: Getting laid automatically brings about this state. It is like women can sense it.

If you just gave a girl head, don’t wash your face and go out. You’ll notice a distinct difference when women are next to you. I don’t think the same thing works for girls. I.e. more guys give her attention because she just gave a guy a blow job. Someone should test this.

Lesson 3: Asshole confidence vs. Calm confidence

Frame: You can make other people feel good and still feel good about yourself

Still, knowing when to take a stand. Depends on threat assessment (real fights, insecure guys). Letting some things go from guys who have no power, who pose no threat to you. Understanding when to fight for a RESULT, versus fighting for your own EGO.

Some girls will still look at your weird, even IF you just got laid and are relaxed. You just think they are weird. Your frame is MUCH stronger and it becomes reality. You can’t control a stranger’s reaction to you all the time. You can, however, control your frame and gain domain over their reality as your reality becomes stronger and is reinforced by the social situation.

Example of Billy Walsh. He started out as Asshole confidence, and ended Entourage as a calm, confident guy. Notice the difference. The asshole is a more interesting character on TV to watch. But, as friends, people like the calmer Billy Walsh better:

“The happiest times of my life was when I was in love” – Hugh Hefner

Valentines Day is upon us, and this year I wanted to compile a list of characters and stories from my favorite video games. Video games get a lot of bad wrap and the common stereotype of a gamer is this:

The truth is, I played video games growing up, and every now and then, I still play a really great game once in a while. I enjoy it. And I can say that as a kid, playing RPGs, King’s Quest, and other adventure games helped me with my learning skills and intelligence. Remember King’s Quest 4, where you had to type in commands for the princess to do in order to advance in the game? What about the organization of Materia in Final Fantasy 7? Regardless, here are my top 10 favorite tragic love stories in video games: [Spoiler Alert!!! If you haven't played these games and want to, don't read ahead in the story sections]

#7. Spawn

Couple: Al Simmons & Wanda

Story: Al Simmons was betrayed and appeared in Hell. In return for seeing Wanda again and avenging his death on Earth, he made a pact with the devil to become a Hell Spawn.

Why it was tragic: Ultimately, Spawn wanted Wanda to be happy (who married his best friend after his death) in the real world, while protecting her from the underworld. In this sense, their love can never be rekindled and Wanda is put in a constant threat of danger from Hell because of Spawn’s love for her.

#6. Final Fantasy 7

Couple: Cloud and Aerith

Story: Cloud, Zack’s protege, meets Aerith Gainsborough, the last Ancient. He reminds her of her old boyfriend, Zack. Along the journey, their relationship develops.

Why it was tragic: Before anything could be harnessed in their romantic relationship, Aerith was killed by Sephiroth. In the movie Advent Children, Cloud occasionally sees Aerith appearing to assist him in his personal battles and quests.

Fan art of Cloud and Aerith abound online...

From the Golden Saucer to references in other games Cloud and Aerith continues their flirting and love affair.

The ending scene in Advent Children is enough to make any final fantasy fan cry:

#5. Final Fantasy 6

Couple: Cyan and his wife

Story: Cyan is a noble knight in Final Fantasy 7. The emperor poisoned the water supply in his town, and he lost his friends, his wife and son to the battle at Doma Castle. Latter on, your allies fight Wrexel for Cyan’s soul. In Cyan’s dreams, he remembers his travels and his wife and son. He eventually gets over his devastating loss by sending love letters to a women who also lost her husband in the war. One of the greatest titles of all time, Final Fantasy 6 is supported by one of the best musical scores ever to accompany a video game.

Why it was tragic: Cyan lost his wife and kids to the war. Yet as a noble warrior, he travels on. The chapters in “Cyan’s Dreams” continue to play out the tragic story and our hero’s perseverance.

The music! Cyan’s Theme:

#4. Final Fantasy 10

Couple: Tidus and Yuna

final-fantasy-tidus-yuna

Story: Tidus meets Yuna as part of her journey to rid the world of “SIN”, a monster that has been killing the people of the world. As they travel their relationship grows deeper. Tidus is a care free soul, while Yuna feels responsibility towards her people.

Over time, the two share a rare chemistry in Final Fantasy 10.

Why it was tragic: Tidus is part of Zanarkand and must return to the spirit world. In Final Fantasy X-2, Yuna has a chance of reuniting with Tidus. In reaching Yuna’s goal, Tidus must die.

#3. Saints Row

Couple: Johnny Gat and Shaundi

Story: Johnny and Shaundi both have their roots in previous Saints Row games. Gat was a trigger happy gangster who lost his long love, Aisha, while Shaundi was a girl who made it big from the hood. In Saints Row 3, Shaundi develops feelings for Gat as Johnny defends the boss aboard the Syndicate plane:

Gameplay of Shaundi reacting to Johnny’s “death”:

Why it was tragic: Johnny Gat dies, defending the boss. I guess even gangsters cry.

#2. Dante’s Inferno

Story: Beatrice is killed due to Dante’s sins on Earth. He spends the rest of the game hacking through hell to save Beatrice from the devil.

Why it was tragic: It just seems like Dante can’t get a break! And Beatrice was really hot.

Beatrice getting killed (this whole game is pretty gory and sinful)

#1. The Darkness (I) and The Darkness II

Couple: Jackie Estacado and Jenny Romano

Story: Jackie Estacado turned 21, and all hell broke loose. The Darkness has him. One of the most interesting moments in The Darkness is that everyday, comfortable feeling you get with a girlfriend that you really love. Beautiful, down to earth, and yet vulnerable all at the same time. Add to that they were in the same orphanage growing up. Jackie has a very soft and vulnerable way about her.

The setting of the game and the comics add the the intensity of the “vulnerable” feeling, making time you spend with Jenny precious despite the brutal killings of your enemies as you try to protect the one you love.

A scene with Jackie and Jenny in The Darkness. Talk about GFE! (Girl Friend Experience):

Why it was tragic: Jenny died, and Jackie, despite his powers, couldn’t save her. Perhaps the most emotional scene, Jackie had to watch Jenny die, as the Darkness controlled him. “The Darkness wanted me to taste joy, just so it could rip it away from me”.

The story continues in The Darkness 2.

If you are a regular reader of this blog then you know me pretty well. And the reason I write these blog post is so that I can be… a huge douchebag. Because really, I can say anything online and it is pretty cool to be blogging about something anonymously. It is sort of like saying what you want publicly without being identified.

Anyway if you are regular reader you will recall my earlier questions of “for money or love” in which you will find my thoughts in written form about my previous struggles for MONEY OR LOVE. Well I figured it out. The truth is, you can’t wish for both things at once, assuming you have neither.

The reality is that you need to focus on something specially and MAKE it priority. This is the only way it is going to work. Later on, when you have huge teams, you can delegate. However, right now, focusing on ONE THING AT A TIME is the key to success.

I actually learned this lesson while taking a break from video games. I don’t play many, but when I do, I tend to get pretty deep into it and have a need for finishing games. Saints Row The Third was so well made that I learned a lot of lesson from playing it!

If you finished the game once, you’ll realize (spoiler alert here) that if you went around and BOUGHT all the properties and businesses, you’ll end up getting about $40,000 an hour in cash. This cash can be used to upgrade weapons and bonuses in the game. Most players will spend their cash on upgrading first, and getting cars etc. On the second play-through, if you invest in properties first, you end up with much more cash earlier on in the game. This is because the cash that is generated is hourly and the sooner you own all the properties, the more money you earn as the game progresses.

This concept is similar to Rich Dad Poor Dad’s “Rat Race” game, as well as monopoly! In effect, it reflects real life. People in the lower social economic class are stuck in this endless cycle – they don’t have enough money, and therefore must always procure more. In America, even the upper middle class are stuck in this endless cycle by relentless advertisements and consumerism.

In “The Millionaire Next Door“, author Thomas Stanley explains why most “high income” earners fall into this trap. More money, more cars, more clothes, more spending. The acquisition of things we deem “high class”. All of this is “borrowed lifestyle” and no assets are acquired for the generation of wealth. A complete 180 from the traditional American way of life. More than 95% of Americans still save less than 5% of their annual income every year.

Example of a player turning the Hos into a Hos Business instead of selling them off for a lump sump with the syndicate:

Make a choice. Even if you’re wrong, you now stand for something. Business will be my priority for the next 2 weeks.
